The city of Temple, Texas is located in central Texas, 65 miles north of Austin and 34 miles south of Waco. The city has been called the "Wildflower Capital of Texas." In 1881, Temple was founded as a railroad town and named after Bernard Moore Temple, a civil engineer and former surveyor with the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad Company that established the town. It was nicknamed by locals as "Tanglefoot" because the combination of muddy streets and liquor made walking a challenge for residents.

Temple is one step closer to getting a permanent children's museum downtown

The Temple Children's Museum, which currently travels throughout Bell County without a permanent home, announced Friday it had secured a building in downtown Temple, where it plans to move in the future. Museum leaders said several donors had provided enough funding that the Temple Children's Museum was able to purchase the downtown building outright, which will allow any future fundraising to go directly toward exhibits and special features.

Authorities search for four boys after park fire in Temple is ruled arson

Investigators are searching for four boys seen leaving Jeff Hamilton Park on South 14th Street, where Temple firefighters said a fire was intentionally set inside a bathroom Thursday morning. Temple police extinguished the small blaze with a portable fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived, and there were no injuries or damage to the building.
