About: summerville, south carolina
A suburb of Charleston, Summerville was settled after the Revolutionary War and was named Pineland Village in 1785. Summerville became a town in 1847 and was named a top spot for the recovery of lung and throat disorders in 1899 by the Congress of Physicians, due in part to the presence of so many trees that released turpentine derivatives into that area. The area today plays host to the Flowertown Festival. Held each spring it is the largest arts and crafts festival in South Carolina.
