Parents fear new Rrisd PD could make things worse for minority students

Ahead of Thursday's school board vote on whether to move forward with the Round Rock Independent School District's proposal to create its own police force, some parents are speaking out against the measure, with concerns about racial issues they say haven't been addressed by the district. According to Round Rock ISD data, in 2017, African-American students represented just 8.7 percent of RRISD students, but received 33 percent of all discretionary discipline placements.

Suspicious behavior leads Round Rock police to card skimmer suspect

A detective conducting surveillance following a rash of burglaries in Round Rock came across a suspect who was found to have credit card skimmer cables in his vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit. Miguel Ariocha Naranjo-Villadoniga, 25, was arrested during the early morning hours of June 13. The Round Rock Police Department detective noticed Naranjo-Villadoniga was at an ATM at the IBM Bank at 1850 Gattis Schol Rd. for approximately 10 minutes.
