Harlingen is located in southernmost Texas in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. It is about thirty miles from the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. In 1904 Lon C. Hill founded the town Harlingen after the city of the name in the Netherlands. At first the town was mostly agricultural. It had major crops of vegetables and cotton. PennDOT Driver License, Photo Centers Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT's Driver and Vehicle Services Web site, www.dmv.pa.gov .
