Gastonia Police offers firsthand training to deal with active shooters

Mass shootings have killed hundreds in recent years at churches, schools, movie theaters and seemingly every other type of business around, so Karl McKinnon wasn't willing to chance not knowing if his staff could handle a tragic emergency. The Schiele Museum of Natural History's assistant director invited Gastonia Police to the city museum on Garrison Boulevard, allowed officers to walk through their security policies and listened as they presented a two-hour seminar on how to best prepare for an active shooter.
