Downey facility may soon treat homeless people after hospital stays

County leaders on Tuesday will decide whether to transform a soon-to-be vacant building on the campus of Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey into a facility where homeless individuals can recover from hospital stays. Supervisor Janice Hahn, who represents the Long Beach area, is sponsoring a motion that would add 165 beds for "recuperative care" in the Downey' facility's Building 900, which currently houses in-patient beds and rehabilitation therapy programs.
