A man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend in front of their young son in her West Covina home was sentenced Monday to 20 1/2 years to life in prison.Eduardo Marin, 48, of Los Angeles had pleaded no contest in June to attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary and cruelty to a child by endangering health. On Oct. 13, 2016, Marin broke into his ex-girlfriend's home in then 3100 block of Adrienne Drive and stabbed her multiple times in front of the boy, Deputy District Attorney Michelle Graves said.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges. The fire started near Highway 39 in the San Gabriel Mountains, Aug. 7. The fire burned nearly a quarter acre before it was put out by firefighters, prosecutors said.

A 19-year old woman was fatally injured and an 18-year old woman suffered major blood loss after they got out of a car that had rear-ended another vehicle on the I-10 Freeway in West Covina and a pickup truck crashed into their vehicle, authorities said. The crashes occurred about 2 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway west of Grand Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Bicyclist hit by car in Azusa

An 83-year-old bicyclist suffered a leg injury when he fell off his bike and was hit by a car in Azusa Thursday, Aug. 2. Azusa Police Lt. Xavier Torres said the Covina man was riding a bicycle in the 800 block of South Citrus Avenue around 5 p.m. when he fell.

After three months of discussions and cuts, the West Covina City Council voted Thursday to adopt a budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year, which began July 1. Most previous drafts presented to the council included deficits of more than $1 million. For the first time this year, the draft budget city staff put forward Thursday included a noticeable surplus - $435,018.
