During the war years, the racetrack was used as an Internment camp for Japanese Americans until they were moved further east and the make shift barracks were then used by the army. LA leaders back parcel tax proposal aimed at stopping polluted stormwater from flowing into the ocean

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to move forward with a parcel tax plan that if approved by voters would pay for projects aimed at capturing more storm water and preventing it from flowing into and polluting the ocean. The board voted 4-1 in favor of putting a measure on the Nov. 6 ballot calling for a special 2.5-cent parcel tax on each square foot of impermeable land that storm water cannot filter through, such as concrete patios.

Teacher pleads not guilty

An Arcadia High School English teacher was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in front of his weeping wife after pleading not guilty to multiple charges of sex crimes against a former student. Phillip Sutliff, 34, of Azusa, was arrested by Arcadia police in October for 24 counts of oral copulation, sodomy with a person under 18, penetration by a foreign object and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, according to a complaint.
