The city of Westminster, California, was founded in 1870 by Rev. Lemuel Webber as a Presbyterian colony. Westminster is a landlocked city that’s bordered by Seal Beach, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley, but it’s only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. Originally, the city was named Tri-City because it was the formation of three cities: Westminster, Barber City and Midway City. Man who illegally imported turtles from Vietnam pleads guilty

A man from the Little Saigon area of Westminster pleaded guilty today to a felony charge for illegally importing more than a dozen federally protected turtles and fish species from Vietnam. Kevin Duc Vu, who sold fish and turtles on the internet, faces up to 20 years behind bars when he is sentenced Feb. 5 by U.S. District Judge Christina A. Snyder.

Fountain Valley police officers shot a 34-year-old man on Saturday, Oct. 14 during an investigation of a fatal traffic accident, authorities said. Westminster police were dispatched around 5:18 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 to Magnolia Street and Edinger Avenue on reports of gunshots involving Fountain Valley police officers, according to Westminster Police Officer Alan Aoki in a statement.

A 36-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder in connection with a 1999 fatal gang shootout in Orange County and was immediately sentenced to 14 years in prison. Ca Van Le, who was living in Virginia when he was arrested in June 2013, had been charged with murder and attempted murder with sentencing enhancements alleging gang activity and was facing 80 years to life in prison if convicted.
