Torrance, California is located in the South Bay area in Los Angeles County. It has 1.5 miles of coastline and 90,000 trees along the city's streets. The land now known as Torrance was issued to Juan Jose Dominguez in the Rancho san Pedro Spanish Land Grant of 1784. In the early 1900s, Jared Sidney Torrance wanted to create a community south of Los Angeles. The plan was to mix the industrial and residential communities. The town was completed in 1912 and named after Torrance.

A 19-year-old Long Beach man who fled the scene of a crash in Torrance that killed one of his passengers and seriously injured another was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison. Monte Lashawn Collins entered his no-contest plea in Torrance court to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and admitted an allegation that he ran from the Nov. 14 crash at Hawthorne and Del Amo boulevards.
