Women rally to close gender wage gap

With miniature PayDay candy bars in hand, Rep. Linda Lawson, D-Hammond, and Sen. Jean Breaux, D-Indianapolis, are calling on fellow Indiana lawmakers to close one of the nation's largest wage gaps. "This is what it looks like when women go home with their paycheck," Lawson said at a press conference Wednesday, holding the nearly two-inch long, "snack-size" treat in the air.

INDOT open house on 'Lyford Y' project set for Feb. 1

The Indiana Department of Transportation will host an open house Feb. 1 to discuss an improvement project for the intersection at Indiana 163 and U.S. 41 in Parke County, often called the Lyford Y. The open house will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 100 South Water Street, Clinton. INDOT personnel will be available to address questions and discuss the project, the agency said.

Resolution asks for Indiana medical marijuana study

An Indiana study committee would be asked to look at medical marijuana under a resolution unanimously passed Wednesday by the House Public Health Committee. There is increasing science-based evidence that marijuana and its derivatives may have various medically useful applications, according to the resolution by Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne.

Isaac Deal, 20, an Indiana State University political science student, said Wednesday he plans to seek the office being vacated by longtime Rep. Clyde Kersey, D-Terre Haute. Early-morning car fire ruled as arson

THFD deputy fire marshal Josh Cottrell said firefighters arrived at about 4 a.m. to the 1600 block of South Fourth Street, where they extinguished flames engulfing a red Honda Odyssey van while battling single-digit temperatures. The Terre Haute Police Department also responded to the scene.

Four students treated and released after accident in involving bus

Four students were treated and released after a collision between a Vigo County School Corp. bus and a sport utility vehicle before 9:30 a.m. today near 19th and Warren Streets. Terre Haute police said the bus was southbound on 19th when it was struck by the SUV, which was eastbound on Warren.

Judge orders intractable pain onto marijuana treatment list

A judge has ordered the state of Illinois to expand the qualifying conditions for medical marijuana use to include intractable pain. The order issued Tuesday by Cook County Circuit Judge Raymond Mitchell seeks to overturn a decision by the Illinois Department of Public Health rejecting pain that's resistant to treatment as a qualifier for medical marijuana use.
