Police in Torrance will conduct "high visibility" enforcement operations Thursday at the intersections of Prairie Avenue and Redondo Beach Boulevard and Crenshaw and Artesia boulevards, educating the public and issuing tickets to try to combat traffic collisions and injuries, officers said. Officers will post signs reminding drivers to obey traffic laws, and will issue tickets for violations including pedestrian jaywalking, a primary concern for injury collisions in those areas, police said.

Doctors were forced to amputate part of a 46-year-old man's arm when it became caught in a printing press at a Torrance plastic manifacturing company, authorities said Tuesday. Paramedics were called to National Plastics Inc. at 16809 Gramercy Place about 11:50 a.m. when the accident occurred.

Judge rejects call to reduce $1 million bail for alleged Torrance paintball shooter

Saying he was acting in the interest of public safety, a judge refused Tuesday to lower the $1 million bail for a man accused of shooting a Torrance resident in a drive-by paintball attack that has possibly cost the victim the sight in his right eye. Judge Thomas Sokolov, however, agreed to reduce the bail amounts for the two alleged accomplices of 20-year-old Tyler James Walters, although it was unclear whether Lynn Emerson Johnson III could make his $500,000 bail or Gabriella Lorraine Semana could make her new amount, $250,000.
