A suburb of Charleston, Summerville was settled after the Revolutionary War and was named Pineland Village in 1785. A road flooded in the Summerwood subdivision after Tropical Storm Irma blew through the area this month. The neighborhood, off Ladson Road, is one of several in Dorchester County along Eagle and Chandler creeks that easily flood, county officials have said.

Council members assess Summerville following storm

There's a good bit of debris and some flooding throughout town, but overall at least a couple of town council members say their districts fared pretty well in the storm. Mayor Wiley Johnson said Tuesday morning that he was waiting on a briefing from the town administrator but said Summerville Police Chief Jon Rogers reported that everything is looking good and that the town hasn't had problems other than minor flooding.
