MISSION Hidalgo County sheriff's investigators are on the hunt for two teenagers tied to an attempted kidnapping and drive-by shooting. The charges stem from two incidents that happened at a home on the 2200 block of Marc Drive in Mission.

Bank to close four branches

Despite experiencing growth across Texas, Frost Bank has announced the closure of four Rio Grande Valley locations, effective in November, according to a company spokesman. Frost, which operates 135 branches across the state, filed closing documents with the Texas Department of Banking in August to shut its doors at locations in Weslaco and Mission, as well as in east Harlingen and the Nolana location in McAllen.

UTRGV President addresses McAllen's concerns over School of Medicine contribution

McALLEN-University of Texas Rio Grande Valley President Guy Bailey made an appearance at the City of McAllen's commissioners meeting Monday to show proof of their commitment to the city and reiterate his hope that the city will meet their pledge to financially support the newly created School of Medicine. "Our goal today was to make a presentation and to outline what we are doing," Bailey said after leaving Monday's meeting.

Hidalgo Co. Authorities Searching for Murder Suspect

NEAR MISSION Investigators are looking for a 37-year-old suspect in the murder of a man near Mission, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said Jaramillo was allegedly arguing with former business partner, Eulalio De Los Santos, over money owed to him.

Mission mayor supports modified anti-border wall resolution

As President Donald Trump threatens to shut down the U.S. government if congress doesn't include funding to construct additional walls between the U.S. and Mexico - including 11 miles in Mission - Mission Mayor Norberto "Beto" Salinas said he plans to support a resolution against building new fencing along the Rio Grande River but not the resolution a citizen's activist group has submitted. During the council's Aug. 14 meeting a group of five area residents submitted a draft resolution titled, "Denouncing the Border Wall," and asked the mayor and city council to put its adoption on their Aug. 28 council meeting agenda for approval.

New Mission Jr. High School among likely future projects

On Saturday, Aug. 12, Mission resident Rebecca Stubbs stood in the shade of the newly erected visitor's bleachers at Mission High School's remodeled Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium and cried tears of joy. "I've been on this committee since 2005 so it's been a long time since we've been talking about Mission High School and to finally see it almost completed it's quite," Stubbs paused holding back her emotions.

'Harvey' concerns pass with changing path of storm

Though with weather anything can happen as of Thursday both the National Weather Service and the Weather Channel were forecasting the eye of what, as of press time Thursday afternoon Tropical Storm Harvey, was no longer headed directly toward the tip of South Texas. Earlier this week weather forecasters had Harvey heading directly toward the tip of South Texas prompting emergency management officials to begin preparing for the inevitable flooding.

With the potential of Hurricane Harvey hitting the region only a few days shy of the first day of school, area school districts were addressing concerns and making preparations Thursday. Several districts reported they would be monitoring efforts while others announced closures ahead of potential bad weather and flooding.
