Medina says it 'gave permission' to company to crush concrete

A city official said that his predecessor "gave permission" to Osborne Concrete to operate their concrete crushing system in 2008, without going through the standard conditional zoning procedure. "Just because they were given permission by the city does not mean they did not have to go through the minimum site plan review process," said Jonathan Mendel, Medina's community development director.

MEDINA, Ohio - Medina County Auditor Mike Kovack has released the following information about county finances for the week of May 15-19: Overall revenues for the county this week were $2,713,517.96. The largest income was from sewer payments, at $366,739.06.

Medina City Council bans cultivation, processing and dispensing of medical marijuana

Council President John Coyne, Ward 2 Councilman Dennie Simpson and Ward 3 Councilman Mark Kolesar all voted against the ban. They said they would have supported a continued moratorium, but were against an all-out prohibition.

Hillview Way in Medina to close for 30 days as part of U.S. 42 widening project

The roadway will be closed between North Court Street and the entrances to the K-Mart Plaza and Verizon Wireless store today through June 23. Hillview has been a popular east-west access route between North Court and North Huntington streets for drivers hoping to skirt much of the construction for the widening project, which has torn up large swaths of roadway between Harding Street and Fenn Road. The detour for motorists who would normally use Hillview will be North Court north to Grande Boulevard, west on Grande to North Huntington and south on North Huntington to Hillview.

Things to do on Memorial Day weekend in Medina County

VFW Post 9520 and American Legion Post 234 will present a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day at Visintainer Middle School , 1459 Pearl Road. The program will be followed by a parade that will step off from the school at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to Westview Cemetery at the corner of Pearl and Center roads, where a ceremony will be held.

Dust from Medina concrete plant worries residents

City officials are anxiously awaiting an analysis of dust produced by a concrete company to determine if it contains harmful levels of silica, a crucial development in an ongoing battle between the company and nearby residents. Jonathan Mendel, Medina's community development director, said the concerned residents of the Liberty Woods and the Yorktown housing developments in western Medina would be alerted when the results were available.

Portion of Hillview Way closed for 30 days

Hillview Way in Medina will be closed between North Court Street and the entrances to the K-Mart Plaza and Verizon Wireless, from 7 a.m. Monday, May 22, to 6 p.m. Friday, June 23. The expected 30-day closure is for both eastbound and westbound directions, and is necessary for roadway reconstruction. Local access for all properties will be maintained.

Westbound drivers on West Smith Road in Medina should expect delays on Monday

Drivers traveling through the construction zone on West Smith Road should expect significant delays Monday as contractors install concrete pavement in a portion of the westbound lane. Construction vehicles will be using the westbound access lane of West Smith Road as workers install pavement on the northbound lane of South State Road from West Smith Road to the railroad tracks and along West Smith near the South State intersection.

Medina County District Library hoping for another record-breaking year of summer reading fun

The Medina County District Library 's Summer Reading Game will kick off on May 26 and run through Aug. 5. The libraries hope to exceed last year's record-breaking summer, when 9,100 children and teens played the game and collectively read for the equivalent of 12 years, 131 days in just 10 weeks. This year's theme is Build a Better World.
