Temperatures soared into the 90s across a large swath of Southern California in an autumn heat wave that peaked Wednesday. Many parts of the region hit new records for the day including downtown L.A. at 92 degrees, Long Beach at 96, UCLA at 95, Woodland Hills at 93 and Oxnard at 97. Long Beach trucking company to pay $333K in criminal case for damaging streets with heavy loads

The Long Beach prosecutor's office Tuesday announced a settlement in one of the largest criminal cases brought against a trucking company accused of damaging city roads and freeways by hauling loads that were too heavy. Western Maritime Express, Inc., based in Long Beach, has pleaded no contest to 40 misdemeanor counts and three infraction charges the city alleged in two separate cases, according to a statement from the office of Doug Haubert, city prosecutor.
