Long Beach prosecutor turns Pearce criminal case back to D.A., citing potential conflict

The Long Beach prosecutor recused himself from a criminal case involving Councilwoman Jeannine Pearce related to an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of June 3, his office announced on Wednesday. City Prosecutor Doug Haubert was investigating misdemeanor domestic violence charges that could result in criminal charges against Pearce, but he transferred the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office for review in light of an "appearance of a conflict" because the City Council oversees his budget.
