Murder suspect makes court appearance

That's according to Gastonia police officers and prosecutors, who provided new information in the case against Herbert Lamar Torrence Jr. Torrence, charged with first-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Adrian Woods, appeared before a District Court judge for the first time Friday. Gray skies and cooler temperatures did not deter people at the 2017 CaroMont Community Challenge on Saturday, May 13. Walkers, runners and general participants showed up in support of health and fitness, and the Gaston County Schools Robotics Program, the primary beneficiary of all proceeds from the event. Gastonia man tries to flee cops in car

A Gastonia man has been charged with attempting to flee and elude arrest after he sped away from Bessemer City Police.  Robert Anthony Robertson, 66, was arrested Tuesday evening after police say he was driving recklessly on Garrison Boulevard and South York Boulevard. According to a magistrate's order, Robertson was driving carelessly and without regard for the safety and rights of others.  Police say Robertson went through the intersection at Garrison and South York while the light was red in his direction.

Stanley man charged with attempted murder

A Stanley man has been charged with attempted murder after breaking and entering into a Gaston County man's house.  Christian Taylor Martin, 16, is accused of conspiring to commit felony larceny and breaking and entering into a home in Springbrook Circle near Gastonia between 11:30 p.m. and midnight on May 16. Police say he did so with the intent to commit larceny and attempted first-degree murder.  According to the warrant for his arrest, Martin conspired with Christopher Jay Roseberry, who has not been booked into Gaston County Jail at this time. Savannah Cameron Hucks, 18, has also been charged with aiding and abetting Martin in committing first-degree burglary.

A man has been transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Gastonia Wednesday morning, police say. The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Gastonia Police Sgt.

Plea expected in a Ponzia scheme

A Gastonia man who is accused of cheating investors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars is expected to enter a plea on Thursday morning.
