70s Dinner Party Provides Inspiration for the Office Potluck

It's that time of the year when we spend our off-hours making delicious potluck dishes to take to the office party, then struggle to remember to bring them in the morning! So what's it going to be this year - being the person who brings gas station chips or the person who brings the thing everyone talks about well after the crumbs have been vacuumed from the low-pile carpet in the conference room? Vicky Chow Brings Epic 1-Bit Electronics and Piano Composition to Southern Exposure

The stage at a performance of Surface Image , the hour-length piano and 1-bit electronics composition written by Tristan Perich in collaboration with new music virtuoso Vicky Chow, doesn't look quite like anything you've likely seen in a recital hall before. The piano sits center stage, of course, but is surrounded on either side by what appears to be an excessive number of modest, vaguely conical speakers hung from mic stands, each with their own cable spiraling towards Chow like a scene from Ridley Scott's Alien .
