Charlotte is experiencing its first snowfall of 2018 as winter weather moves across the Carolinas.

After Charlotte received its first snow of 2018, Mother Nature gave the Queen City another headache Thursday in the form of ice. With some areas receiving a daily record of over three inches in Charlotte, a layer of black ice formed on many secondary roads and neighborhood streets overnight, making for dangerous conditions across the area.

Mecklenburg County activating emergency shelter ahead of winter weather

The shelter will be open at 5:30 p.m. at the Grady Cole Center on the Central Piedmont Community College Campus at 310 N. Kings Drive in Charlotte. The shelter is expected to close at noon on Thursday, January 18. Everyone, including couples, families and individuals with service animals are welcome to seek shelter.

Police identify children, mother in Charlotte double murder-suicide

A young boy and girl were killed in northwest Charlotte Saturday night by their mother who then committed suicide, police said.
