Baldwin Park is located in southwestern California, near Los Angeles. The land where the city sits today was once owned by the San Gabriel Mission and was used for cattle grazing. A community was established and by 1880 it was referred to as Vineland. In 1906 the city changed its name to Baldwin Park in honor of Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin, a prominent California businessman and investor during the latter half of the nineteenth century. One person died when they were hit by a Metrolink train in Baldwin Park, stopping the San Bernardino line to Los Angeles just before noon Tuesday.
