Over 2,000 lose power in Pittsfield, Lanesborough after utility pole catches fire

More than 2,000 city residents lost power on Friday after a utility pole caught fire on Crane Avenue. The fire was the result of an equipment failure, said Eversource spokeswoman Priscilla Ress, adding power was expected to be restored by 5 p.m. Ress said Eversource intentionally shut down the power in order to repair the damaged pole.

Eversource has withdrawn its plans for one of its largest solar arrays in the state, which was slated to be installed off High Street, citing the cost and time involved for substation upgrades.
