Tyler Rene Montejano, 29, of San Jacinto was sentenced to two years in jail Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, for a charge of assault with a gun. A two-year prison term was handed down Tuesday for a man who fired a shot after breaking into a Perris apartment with an accomplice and threatening to kill an occupant.

Nine cities have been examining alternatives to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department

A study on the possibility of nine cities forming their own police force as an alternative to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department is scheduled for review by the Lake Elsinore City Council on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Lake Elsinore joined with Temecula, Wildomar, Menifee, Perris, San Jacinto, Moreno Valley, Jurupa Valley and Coachella in commissioning the study, which examines whether the cities could unite and mutually finance their own law enforcement. The report concluded such a strategy is feasible and that six of the nine cities, including Lake Elsinore, would pay less annually through the coalition than they are with the Sheriff's Department.

Suspected heroin dealer arrested in Lake Elsinore

More than 3 pounds of heroin, 20 grams of methamphetamine, and a small quantity of cocaine were found in the search on a Lake Elsinore home, Riverside County Sheriff's Department reports. A Lake Elsinore man is accused of providing large quantities of heroin to other dealers to be sold in Menifee, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
