Moreno Valley was originally occupied by the hunter-gather Native American tribe named the Shoshone. The first settlers to the area were Spanish explorers. The blazed several trails, such as the Anza Trail that cuts through the land now known as Moreno Valley. The Tuscon-to-San Francisco route of the Overland Mail Company passed through the town as well. Moreno Valley was named after Frank E. Brown, the owner of a water company. Men arrested after allegedly pointing gun at Barstow smoke shop clerk

Keith Lamont Smith, 19, of Moreno Valley, and Tarrance Pearie Raullerson, 39, of Los Angeles, were both arrested after Barstow Police Department officers said they connected them to an incident at Smoked-Out Smoke shop in the 200 block of East Main Street early Friday morning. Police said Smith pointed a firearm at the store's clerk when he refused to let Smith, Raullerson, and a third man inside the shop just after 3 a.m. that morning.

Two pedestrians received traumatic injuries after they were struck by a vehicle while crossing a Moreno Valley intersection early Friday morning.
