Spotting stolen vehicle in Beaumont leads to arrests in mail case

Automatic license plate readers in the city of Highland alerted deputies to a reported stolen vehicle at two different locations Wednesday, July 19. After they caught up with the vehicle, they found stolen mail inside, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department news release. They also found prying tools used to break into community mailboxes, credit card scanning devices along with PIN pad and point of sale credit card machines in a backpack in the vehicle.

Trio arrested in connection to Highland check forgery case

Trenton Justin Jacobs, 27 of Moreno Valley, Sarah Marie Brooks, 30 of San Bernardino and Charity Hope Hawthorne, 31, were arrested for different roles in the case, according to jail records. On July 1 Brooks walked into the Wells Fargo Bank on Greenspot Road in Highland and tried to cash a $7,000 check, according to a sheriff's news release.

When a theft victim started searching an online marketplace for his stolen property, he spotted his stolen computer for sale and alerted San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies who set up a sting, according to a sheriff's news release.
