Trial begins in Gaston Inn homicide

A Stanley man accused of killing a man in a $45-a-night Gastonia hotel room plans on taking the stand to argue self-defense in a murder trial that began Monday, his attorney said. Prosecutors say Darren Andrew Adams shot and killed Joshua Lee Gilliland around 1:20 p.m. on Aug. 21, 2015, then ran from the scene and tried to hide the murder weapon in a pile of pine needles at a nearby doctor's office.
