Fontana man, minor cited for scamming motorists

One adult male and an underage cohort were detained and cited for theft Wednesday after collecting cash from passing motorists for a fraudulent funeral fund, according to authorities. Shane Alexander, 18, of Fontana, and three underage males gathered more than $800 in plastic jars in the area of Bear Valley and Mariposa roads by holding homemade signs, replete with a photo of an unidentified infant, that indicated the money would pay for the infant's funeral, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
