It was a boomtown in the 1800's home to such industries as cereal production, toy, marble, and rubber manufacturing. The city was officially founded in 1825. Police: Akron school board member found overdosing in front seat of SUV

A member of the Akron Public Schools Board of Education remains hospitalized after police found him overdosing on drugs in the front seat of his SUV Thursday night. According to a police report, officers found 57-year-old John R. Otterman unconscious in his red Ford Escape just after 8 p.m. on E Cuyahoga Falls Ave. EMS crews later arrived on scene and administered four doses of narcan to Otterman before taking him to Akron City Hospital.

Smithers Rapra has expanded tire-testing capabilities at its tire and wheel testing facility in Suzhou, with the addition of six machines that cover cleated tire and wheel endurance testing; wheel impact; salt spray; and tire air permeation. Three new school board members starting on same page

However coincidental or intentional, voters in the Copley-Fairlawn City School District sent a message Nov. 7 when they placed a trio of first-time candidates, each former educators, into three seats on the Board of Education. "I'm not sure, but I don't remember a time when we had three former educators vying for seats at the same time," said Steve Coon, a retired coach and teacher who was elected along with former Copley High School teacher Paula Lynn and former athletic director and 23-year Copley High School assistant principal James Borchik.

On Jan. 11, Christopher Hendon, 26, of West Akron, pled guilty to 31 charges in connection with several incidents, according to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. The charges included seven counts of kidnapping ; six counts of abduction ; 15 counts of impersonating a police officer ; and three counts of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone with firearm specifications .
